After $30,000+ Spent with Odesk: The Ultimate Guide to Outsourcing

My exact Odesk spend for the last 30 months: $31,812

I was shocked the other day when I opened up my three year-long financials for Odesk and saw that I had spent over $30,000 over the course of 30 months. That averages to about $1,000 a month roughly – these days it is a lot more than that.

After seeing this number I had the inclination to write an article about outsourcing because I undoubtedly have some good tips to share, but I’ve been putting it off due to time constraints. FlatLine on Wickedfire recently sent me a private message and requested that I write something about VA’s so I got my butt in gear and here I am.

My Foray Into Web Development: Probably a Costly Learning Experience

I don’t know about you but I spend an ungodly amount every month on SaaS applications.

  • $329/mo for Office Auto Pilot.
  • $67/mo for Unique Article Wizard.
  • $90/mo for Article Ranks
  • $67/mo for Submit Your Article

I Donate $738 Per Month to the SaaS Industry

Even though most of these expenses are taken care of through my Marketer’s Center link building business… it still adds up to $738 per month!

But think about all these services I just listed. How did they all start out?

Dividends vs Lending Club: How Much Money Would It Take to Generate a 6 Figure Income?

I read an interesting post entitled How to Build a 6 Figure Income Dividend Portfolio with $600 per month.

I’m still on the fence about investing with dividends even though I know this is a common choice for people trying to build a nest egg or some kind of portfolio income. My grandfather did it and was a big fan of Coca Cola…He still watched the tickers everyday till his late 80′s.

But stock investing is a subject I’m not too versed in so it naturally scares me.

The last time I invested in stock I was 12 years old. I went in with my mom on some no-name company with $100 I had saved up. While I was in school we were in the black, by the time it was 3:00pm and school was out it had tanked. In retrospect it was a good lesson learned.

From what I can see, P2P lending platforms like Lending Club seem like they are a better alternative to dividend investing. [Read more...]

$100 Case Study: 7 Ways to Use Microworkers and Mturk for More Traffic, Links, and Content

I spent about the last week and a half playing with the most popular crowdsourcing sites on the web: Microworkers and Mturk.

I will get into more of what each site is good for below as they both of their own unique set of advantages and disadvantages. At the time of this writing I am currently using Microworkers a lot more than Mturk but Mturk definitely has its uses.

Thanks to Hando for recommending this case study. Had he not commented it and suggested it on the Fiverr Case Study I would have never written this.

101 Keywords for $100+ Products + An Exact Match Domain How-To

I was planning to do an update on the Niche Site Challenge but because I’ve been delayed on the content I’m going to do a short how-to on exact match domains.

Finding Good Keywords for Adsense and Affiliate EMD Sites

One strategy behind getting a decent rev stream going with affiliate products is promoting the big ticket items.

Sell at least 631 products to hit 8% Amazon commish is win.

Promoting low dollar high volume products have their place, especially if you’re an Amazon affiliate and you’re looking to boost your number of products sold so you can get into the higher commission tiers.

But for now I wanted to talk a little bit about pushing the more expensive products. [Read more...]

$100 Spent On Linkbuilding from Fiverr Gigs: Case Study Part 2

Ok here’s the update I know you’ve been waiting for. This is where I’m going to grade each and every service. From here you’ll be able to look at the chart and get a rough idea on the quality of the service.

If you haven’t seen Part 1 of the Fiverr Case Study check it out to get a background on this.

But before I show you the chart I just wanted to do a quick rundown.

Overall I was pretty surprised. A couple providers standed out to me and are easily considered diamonds in the rough. I didn’t think way back when I started this that there would be any diamonds in the rough, to be honest my bias told me that $5 just isn’t enough for anyone in their right mind to deliver a solid service but I was totally wrong.

Even though it may take a lot of searching and blowing some hard earned cash on a few loser services, it may be worth it in the end if you keep using the golden eggs you find over and over again.

Niche Site Challenge Part 1: Niche Selection and Monetization

Chris over at Virtual Business Lifestyle launched a niche site challenge over at his website and called for people to join in. I said “I gotta get in this.” and signed myself up.

This is the first part of many where I will be documenting my niche site from the ground up all the way to the income reports for when it starts earning. Look for my next update next Sunday.

It Took Me About 20 Minutes to Select the Niche

It usually doesn’t take me too long to figure out a niche to build a site on. While the exact niche of what site you select is important, it isn’t the world when we’re talking about these mini earners.

I have a hunch that some people are over-analyzing the exact niche to the point where it actually gets in the way of them building a site of your own. “Will this xxxx niche make money?” The answer is always going to be a resounding “Yes!” If people are searching for it then it will always make money, just build it.

Here’s 2 of my favorite was to brainstorm for new niche ideas.

June, 2011 Income Report: $3963.72

Here is my first of many revenue reports. I’ve never done anything like this before. Keeping track of my monthly income publicly is a big step for me and I knocked it around my head for a good week weighing the pros and cons of doing so.

Ultimately in the name of progress and for the interest of readers like you I decided to do it. It’s going to be fun documenting this over time and being able to look back at these.

I’m not going to report on my expenses, only my gross revenue…But this will be down to the penny.

$100 Spent On Linkbuilding from Fiverr Gigs: Worthwhile or Worthless? A Case Study

2 nights ago I bought 20 different link building services off of Fiverr for $5 each, my total spend was 100 bucks even.

I wanted to do this case study just to see how far $100 bucks would stretch on Fivver when it comes to link building. Not only did I think it would be kinda fun but I was also curious about the marketplace when it comes to links. How many providers would actually deliver reports? Do any of the providers give a super value for your $5? What kind of affect, if any, would it have on SERPS? Negative, Positive, Nothing?

I ordered all the links to two domains (Passiveprofiteer.com and Marketersdeal.com) and their subpages. These are brand new sites with no links. While I think I’m at high-risk of getting these sites sandboxed, it’ll come out eventually if that happens, I’m not too worried about it.

So What Is Fiverr, Anyway?
